The 62nd Oscar’s Winners Drew Praise and Disappointment
The 62nd annual Oscars went hostless this year again. Much like some of the previous year’s lack of representation in the award nominees was made a point of contention between many. Natalie Portman sported a cape with the name of every female director who wasn’t nominated this year and several people touched on the subject during the show itself.
Steve Martin and Chris Rock welcomed everyone to the Oscars this year and Janele Monet kicked off with a cover of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.” She also made sure to mention all the female directors who were snubbed of nominations. Other performances included those by Idina Menzel, Eminem, Randy Newman, Cynthia Erivo, Elton John, and Billie Elish.
As for the nominees Brad Pitt took home his very first oscar, as well as Laura Dern, Bong Joon Ho, and Joaquin Phoenix.
