With COVID-19 cases skyrocketing nationwide, Moderna, an American biotechnology company, has become the second company with a high success rate on the COVID-19 vaccine.
Moderna currently has a 94.5% effectiveness while Pfizer, an American pharmaceutical corporation, has indicated a 90% effectiveness for their vaccine. Moderna announced Monday morning that after many trials with over 15,000 participants, the success rate of the vaccine has been increasing.
“It is absolutely amazing to me to be able to develop this vaccine and see the ability to prevent symptomatic disease with such high efficacy,” Dr. Tal Zaks, Chief Medical officer of Moderna, explained.
However, although Moderna has such a high success rate, they have not applied to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yet for approval. According to CNN’s interview with Dr. Anthony Fauci, American Physician, Fauci said an available vaccine would most likely not be ready until April 2021.
Dr. Fauci originally projected that a COVID-19 vaccine would eventually get approved before the end of the year 2020.
Projected president-elect, Joe Biden tweeted, “Today’s news of a second vaccine is further reason to feel hopeful.”

President Donald Trump also took to Twitter to explain that although COVID-19 began under his presidency, it should be noted that the vaccine was also founded during his term as well.
