CNN is Under Fire for Publishing a Story About the Biden Administration Having to Start ‘from scratch’ on the COVID-19 Vaccination Plan
CNN is facing backlash for publishing a story with an anonymous source saying the Biden Administration will have to make a COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan from scratch because there was no “Trump plan.”
CNN Reporter MJ Lee said in the article the Biden team “had to digest during the transition period was what they saw as a complete lack of a vaccine distribution strategy under former President Donald Trump.”
“There is nothing for us to rework,” an anonymous source told CNN. “We are going to have to build everything from scratch.”
Editor Sam Stein from Politico said the accusations in the story are not valid and that a distribution plan was in the works under Operation Warp Speed created by the Trump Administration.
“Biden folks are spinning here or trying to lower the bar strategically,” Stein tweeted in response to the CNN story.
“There was, indeed, a plan from Trump. I listened in on govs calls on vaccine distribution. The plan had obvious shortcomings. but to say there’s nothing to rework is not true.”
Operation Warp Speed has had a manufacturing and distribution plan for months now.
“OWS and our private partners are developing a plan for delivering a safe and effective product to Americans as quickly and reliably as possible,” the plan outlined.
“Experts from HHS are leading vaccine development, while experts from DoD are partnering with the CDC and other parts of HHS to coordinate supply, production, and distribution of vaccines.”
Critics are saying the CNN story shows bias for the Biden Administration. Journalist Andrew Egger believes the CNN article is an attempt to make the new White House Administration look good.
“This is a very weird story to base entirely on anonymous sources,” Egger tweeted. “Of course Team Biden is going to favor a narrative that Team Trump did none of the vaccine distribution legwork!”
Washington Post reporter, Dan Diamond, reacted to the CNN article on Twitter.
“Biden advisers keep making this claim to reporters, but the idea they’re starting “from scratch” seems like a gambit to lower expectations,” Diamond tweeted.
“Trump was dangerous on covid. Many problems to fix. But government officials did set up a system that’s distributed 36M doses to states.”
The CDC reported nearly 38 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been distributed, and out of those vaccines, 17,546,374 were administered to Americans since Dec. 14.
