Tim Zook, X-ray technician at South Coast Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, CA died after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
On Jan. 5, the 60-year-old posted a photo of his COVID-19 vaccination card captioned, “Never been so excited to get a shot before. I am now fully vaccinated after receiving my 2nd Pfizer dose.”
Just two hours after receiving his second dose, he began experiencing abdominal pain and breathing difficulties. His health continued to deteriorate and he died four days later.
“The doctors believe that his body reacted to something after he took the vaccine and they called it an inflammatory reaction,” said his wife of 27 years, Rochelle. “It was so intense that it started attacking major organs and he never had a chance to recover.”
According to a report in ABC 7, his family is awaiting the coroner report, which could take months to complete.
“We don’t know whether it was the vaccine or was there any other underlying conditions that none of us knew about,” his family said.
His family says they still believe people should take the vaccine.
“If he was to do it all over again, I know my husband, we know Tim, he would do it all over again and he would want all of us to take it,” his wife Rochelle said.
According to Pfizer, “Serious adverse events, including deaths that are unrelated to the vaccine, are unfortunately likely to occur at a similar rate as they would in the general population.”
Meanwhile, data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines shows there have been about 372 reports of non-serious adverse events per million doses administered, and 45 serious adverse events.
