In a two-hour interview with Oprah Winfrey March 7, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Dutchess of Sussex Meghan Markle said they experienced racism from the Royal Family, which led to Markle having thoughts of suicide.

Prince Harry told Winfrey that his family did not support his wife and lost their security when he was financially cut off.

Markle told Winfrey there were conversations of concern about their child’s skin color while she was pregnant with her first son, Archie.

“He won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title, and also concerns and Conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” Markle said.

She then told Winfrey that at the time, she “didn’t want to be alive anymore” and said she sought help through the palace’s human resources department, but was told there was nothing they could do.

“We’re not saying don’t make him a prince or princess, whatever it’s going to be, but if you’re saying the title is going to affect their protection, we haven’t created this monster machine around us in terms of clickbait and tabloid fodder,” Markle said about the royal family’s actions.

“You’ve allowed that to happen, which means our son needs to be safe.”

Harry further explained that he was cut off financially at the beginning of 2020 when he stepped down from his roles, but could afford his family’s security because of the inheritance his mother, Princess Diana, left him.

He denied the accusations of “blindsiding” his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, about leaving the royal family.

“I’ve never blindsided my grandmother,” Harry said. “I have too much respect for her.”

Harry said he was “trapped” and didn’t know how to get out. He shared that he does not have a close relationship with his brother or father at this time.

Harry said that he will always love his father but feels “really let down” and that “there is a lot of hurt that has happened.”

The royal family has yet to respond to the interview.
